Welcome to MaleVox!


Who are we?

MaleVox is a male a cappella group based in the West Midlands, founded in 2018, who come together every other Thursday for friendship, fun and excellence in Birmingham city centre. Singing together is one of our favourite things to do, and the atmosphere at rehearsals is only bettered by the atmosphere at our gigs or singouts! Carefully polished to a singing machine by our MD Duncan Whinyates, our members turn up to rehearsals familiar with the arrangements so that rehearsal time is spent on honing and fine-tuning every song to performance standard. We love to share our work with as many people as possible and hopefully inspire others to take up singing and embrace the world of a capella singing and music-making in general. 


What do we sing?

Our repertoire looks to challenge our singers with music from a variety of genres and backgrounds ranging from choral and sacred to modern harmonies, music from stage and screen and jazz/pop standards. Our main focus is barbershop-style arrangements, as we love the sounds that such close harmony allows us to make! We are constantly updating and refreshing our catalogue of music; from Broadway and Barbara Streisand to the Beatles and Birmingham's own ELO, we cover a spread of eras and music tastes so there's something for everyone.
 

Our mission...

We're looking to share great music through excellence in singing! Our aim is to be a top-level vocal ensemble comprising a versatile mix of those discovering these styles of singing for the first time, experienced choir singers and people rekindling their once-great passion and falling back in love with making music. We look forward to competing and performing at festivals and conventions worldwide and supporting other choruses from around the world.

A big part of what we do is community-focussed, collaborating with other groups as well as reaching outside of barbershop and encouraging people from all  to come and sing with us on one of our "Big Sing" days. Every rehearsal is "open", meaning anyone can come and listen to us and see what we're about.
